چکیده

environmental contamination, including the Barnstable Airport. We agree with Schaider et al. that these exposures may also contribute to the risk of breast cancer, although the earliest data we are aware of show no appreciable levels of volatile halogenated compounds in 1984 BWC water samples (Janik 1987). With only limited historical data available, we cannot be sure of the exact timing and geographic distribution of these other exposures. However, a very tight correlation would be necessary for these confounders to account for the observed associations with the BWPCF plume, and other exposures would have to date back to 1966. Fortunately, groundwater sources of drinking water in this area are subject to more protections today, and we agree that on going monitoring of known and emerging contaminants is important to maintain water quality. The authors declare they have no actual or potential competing financial interests.

Form factor of pNIPAM microgels in overpacked states.

We study the form factor of thermoresponsive microgels based on poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) at high generalized volume fractions, ζ, where the particles must shrink or interpenetrate to fit into the available space. Small-angle neutron scattering with contrast matching techniques is used to determine the particle form factor. We find that the particle size is constant up to a volume fraction ro...

Successful Particle Size Analysis of Dry Powders

A correctly set up dry powder measurement using a laser diffraction particle size analyser is much easier to perform than measurement of wet suspensions. However, incorrect measurement set-up can lead to errors and inconsistencies. This article examines the key steps achieving successful dry to powder measurement. Issues examined include powder flowability and sampling, air pressure and sample ...

Electric double layer for spherical particles in salt-free concentrated suspensions including ion size effects.

The equilibrium electric double layer (EDL) that surrounds colloidal particles is essential for the response of a suspension under a variety of static or alternating external fields. An ideal salt-free suspension is composed of charged colloidal particles and ionic countercharges released by the charging mechanism. Existing macroscopic theoretical models can be improved by incorporating differe...

Effect of Micronization on the Extent of Drug Absorption from Suspensions in Humans

A microscopic mass balance approach has shown that the initial saturation (Is), absorption number (An), dose number (Do), and dissolution number (Dn) are four fundamental dimensionless parameters that can be used to estimate the fraction dose absorbed (~ of suspensions of poorly soluble drugs in humans. The dissolution number of a drug increases with decreasing its particle size. The effect of ...
